One of my earliest memories of Jim was when my family was out to dinner at the restaurant. Jim came up to check on us and asked our little girls if they had ever tried an Italian soda. Next thing we know there are two huge Italian sodas with massive amounts of whip cream sitting right in front of the girls...It was these little acts of kindness that I learned were the staple of his relationships with people and friends. Over the years he has been a great mentor, encourager, and example for me. His memory will live on with our family. Love to you Penny and the rest of the family.

We were lucky enough to meet Jim and Penny on a food industry trip to Hawaii. We met them on our first night there and were immediately drawn to the two of them. We spent as much of our free time as we could we them. You could instantly tell the love that Jim and Penny had for each other. Their love story is that of novels and what it's all about. I would love to watch Scotty and Jim go off to chat while Penny and I were able to chat steps behind. Our friendship has been so cherished and so easy. That friendship evolved over the years to a few more vacations, countless phone calls, emails and letters. Jim will remain one of our favorite story tellers. Conversations were so easy and time would always fly when we were together. We are better people knowing him and will miss him dearly. Rest in peace dear friend. We love you.

My deepest condolences to Penny, Victoria, Daniel & Family. I had the great opportunity to serve on the governing board of Shasta Elementary with Jim Gironda. His leadership made meetings interesting & thought provoking. Living near Penny & Jim & Victoria & Daniel was a neighborhood privilege.
When Jim & Penny opened Gironda’s Restaurant, Chicago Style I was thrilled to work for them. So excited when Jim received Restaurateur of the year (Gold Plate) and Penny & Jim received Italian Restaurant (Gold Plate) of the year from The Restaurant Association. Under their guidance in 2009 I received Front of the House “server of the year” (Gold Plate). Working for Jim & Penny was an exercise of devotion & quality culinary experience. I truly loved my moments in Gironda’s Restaurant.
Jim & Penny’s smiles are the most blissful of smiles. Their family traditions of dining were magic in the making. Jim & Penny's menu & wine list & signature cocktails was extensive & delicious. I loved when Jim’s smile revealed his dimples. You knew his humor was about to yield a diamond of laughter. I felt so much grace for Jim & Penny knowing how challenging his health was.
Parting is such sweet sorrow. Rest In Peace Jim Gironda. You will be greatly missed. When ever a joke is told & there is laughter I will think of you fondly. May the grieving of your loved ones be comforted.

I have many fond memories of Jimmy. I remember he & I making raviolis in my kitchen for the first time. I also remember having so many long conversations on the phone with him. Jimmy & I had a special connection I think & I will miss him so much!!

I am deeply saddened to learn of Jim’s passing. He was a beloved husband, father, friend, community member, volunteer and a treasured person to all who were blessed to know him in Shasta County. My thoughts and prayers are extended to the entire family.

I can’t begin to thank Jim for all of the incredible memories from my childhood. Some of the true standouts that I will hold in my heart forever are driving in the back of the Cadillac with him after the countless softball and soccer games and tournaments. He always had a way of making us laugh uncontrollably and I remember all the giggles we all shared. And this sounds so funny but the smell of his cologne in that car always reminds me of fun times and happy memories whenever I smell it in my life even to this day. Funny the things that are so imprinted on us at a young age. I will remember the countless overnights at his amazing home out in Old Shasta and hilarious family dinners with his dad... just the back and forth between grandpa and all of us will make me smile forever.
And I’ll never forget the restaurant... how much joy he brought to the town with his incredible recipes and especially to our family. We would celebrate every big moment by coming to the restaurant and ordering our very favorite... Jimmy G’s pizza with pepperoni! It is a pizza that will NEVER be matched in my book and my family and I shared so many memories over those square slices of delicious pie – I'm thankful to him for bringing us joy through his food – and every time we went in, he’d come visit us at the table and make us laugh and tell us an amazing story or memory or joke and we loved it so much.
You are a true legend Jim and I learned so much from you and appreciate you so much. Thank you for the amazing memories. Words will never be enough to share with you how much you mean in my life and my families' lives.

I had the pleasure of serving with Jim in the United States Marine Corps. We were best of friends for 3 years. We lost touch after our discharge, but two years ago we got together again and spent 5 days in St. Augustine, Florida. Where I met his wife Penny. I’ll always remember that trip. We reminisced, laughed, and of course, ate and drank too much.. We had planned to meet again the following year in Savannah, GA. But the pandemic spoiled that. Rest In Peace Jim. You deserve it.

There are so many memories it’s hard to pick. All of our family gatherings and so much more. Jim was a very kind loving man and I am so thankful that Penny added him to our family. A fun memory was when we went on a houseboat on Shasta Lake, we had so much fun and made some new friends.

Back in 2007, I desperately needed something to do. Started working at Gironda’s restaurant. Salad station at first, then everything else! My Aunt Penny’s husband Uncle Jim was around often. Bopping here and there, talking to the crew, the guests, even working the line. Some of my family knows how important that was for me to “fix” where I was at, to heal my own broken self. I owe this man much gratitude. Rest In Peace Jim.

My Uncle Jimmy, or as we liked to call him “UJ” was a true gentleman. Kind, gentle, respectful, soft spoken, authentic and genuine. He was passionate about many things, but family, tradition, relationships and food were front and center. When we all gathered in the kitchen, or sat around the table, I would glance at him. He was neverThe center of attention, but rather loved taking it all in, watching us talk, laugh and of course, enjoy our meal. There was always a back story to a recipe and we loved hearing the details, its origin or modifications. We leaned in…we took it all in. The meal was an event and we couldn’t wait to pull up our seat.
Uncle Jimmy’s love and passion for food were fulfilled in his lifelong dream of opening Gironda’s. He loved cooking with his Grandmothers, and took that love and those recipes and shared them with many. When you walked in the door you may have been a customer, but would always leave feeling like family.
Sharing family history and traditions was a favorite. He was the keeper of the stories, he loved to share, and we loved to listen. His theory…”I know there are more Gironda’s we are related too, we just don’t know them yet!"
One of my uncle's greatest superpowers was his ability to listen. It wasn’t listening to respond, but listening to really hear what you are saying. I walked away from every conversation always feeling head and understood. This gift…the gift of being seen is just one of the many things I will miss most.
Thank you Uncle Jimmy for your love and leadership in our family. We love you and miss you always.
